Legislators
CUH
welcomes
one and all to join us in our efforts to win universal health care for
our state and nation. If you agree that we deserve better than the
intolerably inhumane and wasteful situation we have now, why not tell
your representatives in government in your own way? Letters to the
press are also very helpful.

WHEN
WRITING TO A LEGISLATOR
Try to stick to one typewritten page,
two at the most. Write only on one side of the page. In your first
paragraph,
briefly state your purpose. Stay with one subject per letter. If
writing
about a bill, cite it by name and number. Be factual. Avoid emotional
arguments. Indicate likely adverse/positive effects of a bill. Suggest
a better approach if possible. Ask for the legislator's views, but do
not demand support of your position. Remain respectful. Make sure your
name and address are legible. Check to see if your Legislator has an
email address. More and more legislators use email.
Address
your letter in the following manner:
The Honorable ________________________
United States Senate (or United States House of Representatives)
Washington DC 20510 (or 20515 for house members)
Begin with
"Dear Senator (or Representative) _______________________"
