Mission of the CUH web site

CUH (Citizens for Universal Health care) advocates a not-for-profit health care delivery system for everyone. Our purpose is to provide useful information in a simple, easy-to-access format, to help clarify the complex health care system we have in the USA. We intend to inform with thought provoking, memorable facts. We intend our “Did You Realize?” (DYR) items to be brief, provocative, and factual. We will provide many dots that can be connected to illustrate what is wrong with our current health care situation.

We will show how the excesses and abuses of the for-profit health care delivery insurance system denies health care access to millions, makes it prohibitively costly, and damages us all. The excessively high (and escalating) premiums, plus the prohibitive cost of many drugs, is a financial catastrophe for those on low incomes, a severe hardship for medium income families, and reduces disposable income for all. A not-for-profit system could reverse this, while boosting our economy.

We will show how the HMOs and insurance corporations act like for-profit tax collectors, making the cost of health care insurance sky high through enormous salaries, huge profits, and administrative costs of 15% to 50%. (By comparison, Medicare operates with less than 3% administrative cost}. The insurance companies, HMOs, and pharmaceutical companies then spend lavishly for lobbying and contributing to politicians and for promoting their own agenda while bashing universal health care through the media.

The most effective weapon against this is the vote and the pressure we can put on our elected officials and candidates. We urge you to stay informed and engaged. Help the USA get universal health care insurance and break the grip commercial insurers and so-called health care managers have on our lives.
